March is Women’s History Month, and the National Library of Medicine in Bethesda, MD is celebrating with this lecture:

A graduate of Yale’s School of Medicine, was the first woman commissioner of New York City’s Department of Health, from 1954-1962.

The National also hosts the online “Changing the Face of Medicine” exhibit, which explores “the many ways that women have influenced and enhanced the practice of medicine.” A searchable directory of female physicians is provided, with profiles for each addressing the women’s , biographical details, Q&A with the living physicians, and photos. A profile of Baumgartner is included in the exhibit.
