Dr. Berger recommends use of ovulation predictor kits as an aid to trying to conceive after tubal reversal surgery. These simple urine test strips are used for a week in the middle of the menstrual cycle. They test for the presence of lutenizing hormone (LH) which is an indicator that ovulation will take place within 12-36 hours. Once the test strip shows a positive, intercourse should take place daily for 3 days during this fertile period of the woman’s cycle.

An alternative to a vasectomy reversal is to extract sperm from either your testicle or epididymis and directly inject it into an egg using an intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). This fertilised egg then needs to be implanted in the woman’s womb. It is generally not as successful as a vasectomy reversal however.

On Tuesday, Connecticut State Representative Deborah Heinrich told a crowd gathered for a press conference of being raped while in college. Heinrich, in support of a bill that would require all state hospitals to provide emergency contraception, reportedly stated, “Every woman in the state must be assured that when she finds that last ounce of strength, that last bit of trust that will allow her to enter the doors of the hospital, that no matter which hospital she manages to stumble into, that she will be assured of having the highest standards of care. For a rape victim, that must include being offered emergency contraception.” Heinrich indicated that only her immediate family had been aware of her rape prior to her announcement, and described the strength it took for her to seek help after her rape, stating that she would not have had the stamina to go elsewhere had a hospital told her to do so for EC. Your age should not influence the result of your vasectomy reversal. Most men continue to produce sperm from their testicles for many years after their partners have entered menopause and are no longer ovulating, or producing eggs. In fact, a woman’s fertility starts declining in her mid-30s, with significant impairment beginning around age 37.

There are many factors which will need to be taken into consideration by a woman after tubal reversal surgery has been carried and she is looking to conceive. Certainly for some women once the procedure has been carried out they find they become pregnant quite quickly afterwards, but for others it will take some time. There are a number of different factors a woman will need to consider in relation to her pregnancy after tubal reversal actually being successful.
