What You Should Know About Vasectomy Side Effects

Vasectomy side effects are few and far between

Vasectomy procedure is often carried out families who believe that children spend more time in the future we want. Life, but it is full of irony, and often the best reasons for not having a baby you will want the opposite.

One of the worst side effect is that a vasectomy is irreversible

Although it is possible in some cases successfully reverse the vasectomy, as a rule, it is not possible. So, this is one of the worst side effect of vasectomy and why even today, this procedure is seen with suspicion. Some other effects include vasectomy, but a gradual decline in safer sexual desire. Research indicates that this type of vasectomy side effects usually caused by a number of emotional distress, could reduce the psychiatric counseling.

Some people develop immune responses against their own sperm after vasectomy. This is one of the few major side effects vasectomy have known to man. When the body turns around and produces antibodies to sperm are formed in the testicle itself, because it is exposed to numerous risks and obstruction of the arteries (atherosclerosis) and / or cancer.

Many studies have been conducted specifically to prove or disprove these vasectomy side effects. But none of the studies show convincingly that this is true. Unfortunately, no studies prove them wrong. In 1991, due to the seriousness of the theory of the opportunities that the meeting with experts from around the world thrash the issue once and for all launched. With respect to all known research team of medical experts could not agree that cancer is a direct side effect of vasectomy.

Throughout the way the media is that generally, the normal vasectomy side effects not really life threatening, and not the blessing of the family, the main concern is to achieve an efficient, low-cost contraception. The vast majority of people who have undergone this procedure have found it really a great new way to prevent pregnancy.

While the question is whether adverse effects of cancer, including vasectomy remain unanswered, this procedure is very popular with families as the best contraceptive measure.

Just a Snip! Does The Word ‘Vasectomy’ Make Your Partner Cross His Legs Uncomfortably? Read on for a Quick Q & A…

Crossing his legs and running for cover could simply mean that your partner is uniformed about the vasectomy procedure. Before making the decision, both partners should be educated in what the procedure involves and you will then be able to make your decision with greater confidence.

The following questions and answers are commonly asked by others so compare this list with your concerns, and if still not sure, discuss with your doctor.

1. Basically, what is a Vasectomy?

In reality, it’s a very simple 20 minute operation that leaves a man unable to father children. It involves cutting the two tubes, called vas deferens, which run from the testes to the urethra. Simply explained, this ‘cut’, in the two tubes, prevents the sperm from reaching the semen. Although the man continues to have sexual intercourse and climax as before, as explained, his semen does not contain sperm and he cannot father a child after the vasectomy.

2. How Is It Done?

A Vasectomy is a simple procedure normally carried out in a day clinic, using a local anesthetic. A small incision is made in the upper part of the scrotum under the penis. The vas deferens are ‘tied’ off and then cut apart. Depending on the size of the incision, it may require some stitching.

3. Are There Any Complications?

Yes, as in any surgical procedure, there could be complications and you should discuss this with your Doctor. However, having made that point, a vasectomy ranks among the safest surgical procedures. You will experience some minor bruising and discomfort (often described as a dull ache) but recovery takes only a few days.

4. How Soon Afterwards is it Effective? (Meaning “How soon Can I have Sex?)

The operation IS NOT effective immediately. After the operation, general thought is that it can take 16-20 ejaculations to expel all the stored sperm, before a man can be declared infertile. Better safe that sorry! Men are able to resume a normal sex life as soon as they wake up from the operation, if they wish, but additional contraceptive measures are advisable for the first few weeks. Above all, bear in mind, that a vasectomy does not mean that a man has to abstain from sex for any period of time, and that it also DOES NOT have any impact on your ability to get or sustain an erection.

5. Can a Vasectomy be Reversed?

You should consider a vasectomy to be permanent. If there’s any doubt, or if you think you might need your fertility again at a later stage, then this procedure is not for you. There are delicate microsurgery operations that are quite complicated, that may be able to reverse the effects of the vasectomy, but there is no guarantee that the flow of sperm can be restored. It is therefore best to assume that the procedure will be permanent.

6. What is the cost of a Vasectomy?

This can range from 0 to 00, but this cost is covered under many health insurance programs. Check if the cost is provided under the benefits of your coverage. It is worth noting, that the cost is significantly lower than the cost of sterilization for women.

Once you have made a decision whether or not to have the vasectomy, please take a little time to consider the importance of looking after your prostrate. A total of approximately 10 million American men suffer with prostrate problems and I would therefore strongly advise that you start taking a supplement to ensure the health of your prostrate. Please CLICK ON THIS LINK and consider the Prosta Rx capsules which will provide a broad spectrum of nutritional support, or the Ultra Saw Palmetto & Pygeum Capsules if you are suffering with low libido and sexual stamina. Do remember that the sooner you start looking after your prostrate health, the longer you will stay healthy and sexually active – Good Health Naturally

I have been involved in the Herbal/Natural healing industry for the past 20 years. I have owned my own manufacturing factory plus retail outlets. I have also been responsible for the formulations of all the products I produced and sold. I am passionate about natural healing and firmly believe we should all “treat the cause and not just the symptoms”. During this time I also became very involved in counselling couples with troubled relationships – I found that I could really relate to these people.

In my spare time I am an avid sportsperson having represented my country in swimming and cycling in the veterans catergories.

Vasectomy – What You Need To Know, But Don’t

If you are considering having a vasectomy, and under the impression that the procedure can always be reversed at a later date, there is something you should know. Not every doctor considers the procedure reversible. If you even think there is a slight chance you may want to have children in the future then you should be considering other forms of birth control.

Things Your Afraid To Ask

As with all medical procedures, nothing is guaranteed one hundred percent. There is always a chance even a very small one, that things won’t work. For example, there is about a 1 in 1000 possibility, that the vasa deferentia will grow back. What this means essentially, is that it will be possible for you to get your partner pregnant. The vasectomy procedure, is not immediately effective. There is at least an eight week period following the procedure, where the sperm within your body is still quite potent, and capable of producing children. Your doctor will likely inform you of this, and should do tests around the eighth week after to let you know the status of your sperm. Sexually transmitted diseases such as HIV are still a concern after a vasectomy, so a condom is still your best bet for protection from those diseases. While there has been some talk concerning certain adverse conditions, such as a heightened possibility for osteoporosis, prostrate cancer, testicular cancer, and heart disease, there is really no research data to backup such concerns. As always, it is best to talk with your doctor regarding the the latest research, and what would be advisable for your particular condition.

Side Dishes

Recovery period side effects which do have a higher degree of occurrence, but with less severe conclusions that you can look forward to experiencing include bleeding within the scrotum, pain within the scrotum, inflammation and infection. If you experience problems when urinating, notice lumps forming in the scrotum, or a swelling that doesn’t abate then you should visit your doctor as soon as possible.

And The Payoff Is

And now for a little good news. If you are in a relationship with only one partner, then getting pregnant is no longer a concern when you have unprotected sex. This is the main reason most men have the procedure to begin with. Tubal ligation is the equivalent procedure for women, but is a more complicated and expensive procedure. Besides, many married couples often share the feeling that since mom has coped with earlier pregnancies, that it’s dad’s turn to share in some of the biological challenges of being a parent. As a final note, be sure to discuss any of the prior points, or other concerns you may have with your family doctor. They are really the best person to recommend what is right for you and your family.

Vasectomy: a Birth Control Procedure

Vasectomy is a process through which birth can be controlled. Vasectomy is basically a method which is meant for the male generation. Vasectomy is in fact, a minor form of operation but it needs the doctor’s advice for whoever wants o undergo the operation. Vasectomy is a form of male process of sterilization. Through Vasectomy, the vas deferens of the males is removed through a simple form of surgery. Vasectomy however does not engross the total removal of the male testicles. Moreover Vasectomy also does not any how affect the sex hormones production in the males and neither the secretion of the hormones to the bloodstream is affected. Sexual life is not in any way found to get affected by Vasectomy. Normal erection of the penis and normal ejaculation is experienced by the males even after the Vasectomy. So there is not any sexual risk factor involved in respect of Vasectomy. A male experiences the normal sexual desire even after Vasectomy.

After the Vasectomy is performed, the male sperm no longer finds its outlet to the penis as they get already broken down and gets absorbed in different parts of the body. Vasectomy takes only a very short span of time to be performed. After it is operation is over, the operated patient after resting for only half an hour can return back home. Vasectomy is generally performed by giving local anesthesia to the patient concerned.

Vasectomy side effects though are common but are rare and can be appropriately diagnosed. Vasectomy leads to certain side effects. Pain is a very common vasectomy side effect. The pain which is associated with vasectomy practically declines after a week. Swelling of the testicle areas which occur after a week of vasectomy is another vasectomy side effect. Abscesses are yet another vasectomy side effect which leads to infection but can be virtually treated with antibiotics. Erectile Dysfunction (ED) is also a vasectomy side effect. Erectile Dysfunction (ED) leads to the declination of sexual contentment and satisfaction but it is only very much temporary.

Though the symptoms of vasectomy are rare it needs quick medical recommendations. Vasectomy side effects are thus very common but can be revealed and overcome with proper diagnosis. There are certain complications which are quite major in its aspects and often lead to certain infections. Staining, bruising, swelling and a certain amount of redness are quite common. It is however necessary to be estimated here that though the symptoms might be minor, it requires relevant medical advice.

No Needle, No-Scalpel Vasectomy

The choice of a vasectomy is often rejected because of the prospect of surgery and anesthesia, the needles and scalpels deemed necessary to perform such a delicate procedure.

However, there is a relatively new and widely accepted vasectomy procedure which involves no needles for anesthesia and no scalpel or stitches. It is different from a conventional vasectomy in the way the doctor seals off the vas deferens. It also involves an improved method of anesthesia to help make the procedure less painful.

The procedure is called the No Needle, No-Scalpel vasectomy.

No Needle

The No Needle vasectomy uses a relatively new device which applies high pressure to deliver anesthetic through the skin and directly into the tissue around the vas deferens.

In a traditional vasectomy, a small needle is used to give a lot of local anesthetic in the area of the vas deferens. This may be somewhat uncomfortable and intimidating for many men.

No-Scalpel

The No-Scalpel vasectomy procedure eliminates the need to cut the patient’s skin in order to reach the vas deferens. Instead the physician identifies the tubes under the skin and then isolates them with a specialized clamp – after the anesthesia has been given.

He then makes a tiny puncture and stretches the opening so the vas deferens can be reached. The vas deferens from each side is pulled through the hole and one at a time are cut and blocked. Unlike a conventional vasectomy, there is very little bleeding and scarring and no stitches are required.

Recovering from the No-Scalpel Vasectomy
As mentioned above, it is important to rest for a few days after the No Needle, No-Scalpel Vasectomy. It is often recommended to wear a supportive jockstrap in order to feel comfortable. Place ice on the surgical site immediately after the procedure, this will greatly reduce swelling. It is also recommended to refrain from exercise for a few days.

Is a man sterile immediately after the vasectomy?

Once the tubes have been interrupted, there should be no new sperm released into ejaculated fluid. However, the reservoir of fluid that has already passed the point where the tube is interrupted may contain a sufficient amount of motile sperm. A man will not be sterile until the reservoir is flushed out. Starting at six weeks after the vasectomy, semen is evaluated, to determine if sperm is still present in the ejaculate. Once the physician determines there are no sperm in the ejaculate, a man will be considered sterile.

What are the potential complications?

Although vasectomies are low risk procedures, and the No-Scalpel vasectomy even lower, there are some complications that may arise.

Infections – as with any procedure involving cutting of the skin or open wounds there is a risk of bacterial or viral infections. Congestion – Is discomfort due to pressure caused by sperm in the testes and lower vas deferens. Sperm Granuloma – This occurs because sperm is leaking from the cut vas deferens, which then hardens to form a lump (often the size of a pea). Although the lump is not dangerous and almost always flushed out by the body over time, it often causes pain and discomfort. Internal Bleeding (Hematoma) – Can occur spontaneously at the site of any surgery, however it is rare in the case of vasectomies. It may also occur if a man strains or exerts himself after the procedure. Resting, especially the first day, is the best prevention.

No Needle, No-Scalpel Vasectomy – A bit of history

The No Needle, No-Scalpel vasectomy developed by Dr. Shunqiang Li in 1974 in China. With over 1,340,000,000 people, approximately 51% male, and the vasectomy being the most common method of birth control. By 1998 over 10 million No-Scalpel vasectomies were performed in China.

The procedure was first introduced to Western physicians in 1985, when the “Association for Voluntary Surgical Contraception” (now AVSC International) sponsored an international team to visit China. At this time the technique was referred to as “The ligation of vas deferens under the direct vision”.

In 1985 Dr. Marc Goldstein of the New York-Presbyterian Hospital-Weill Medical College of Cornell University was the first to perform the No-Scalpel Vasectomy procedure in the U.S.A.

Can a vasectomy be reversed?

A vasectomy is not a permanent procedure. Reversing the vasectomy is far more complicated and time-consuming than the No Needle vasectomy.

The vasectomy reversal procedure is performed under an “operating microscope”, this is a microscope that stands over the patient. During the procedure, the physician relies on the highly magnified view in order to manipulate the small, fine instruments by hand.

Theoretically, it seems the vasectomy reversal should be the process of reconnecting the two severed ends of the vas deferens (or anastamosis). However this is a very complicated task for a physician to fulfill.

Pregnancy After Vasectomy

Perhaps you have had a death of a child, or maybe your financial situation has changed, allowing the opportunity for more children. If you have received a vasectomy and you and your partner have decided that you would like to have more children, a pregnancy after a vasectomy reversal is not impossible, although it may be more difficult. Discussing your concerns with your partner and your physician will give you a better idea of what you have to look forward to and what to expect if you would like to have your vasectomy reversed.

The surgery involves surgical removal of fluid from the testicular end of vas deferens to check for colour, consistency, volume and presence of motile sperm. Once the health of the fluid is established, the two severed ends of vas deferens are reconnected to allow for unobstructed flow of sperm into the fluid that is eventually ejaculated at orgasm.

The sperm count is expected to be back to normal within a period of six to eight months. If no healthy or motile sperm is noticed even after that period of time, a vasectomy reversal is declared a failure. In that case a couple may decide to undergo a re-do vasectomy reversal or explore alternatives such as in-vitro fertilization or artificial insemination.

The vasectomy failure rate is very low and is generally only a problem when men fail to go through with a follow up exam. As such, vasectomy effectiveness is almost guaranteed. Additionally, the procedures of a vasectomy have evolved, resulting in the elimination of cutting. This is because the microscopic vasectomy procedure has been replaced by the no scalpel vasectomy.

Sex is the motivation for vasectomies, as nobody would get one if they didn’t want to eliminate the risk of pregnancy. Sex after vasectomy procedures can be just as fulfilling as ever, but the first few times, men will experience pain. Additionally, vasectomies cannot always be reversed. However, it is possible to have a pregnancy after vasectomy reversal (if your body can handle the reversal procedure).

The process of vasectomy can also be reversed and this is known aptly as reverse vasectomy. But this is a more complicated surgery than vasectomy itself (and less successful as well) and it is also costly. Further it is also not covered by insurance. In this, the tube that carries the sperm from the testes is re-connected but this can happen only when the tube was tied up and not when it was cut off. However technically this remains a possibility and when done successfully, it can allow the man to impregnate the woman because the sperm can again travel to fertilize the egg within the vagina. But vasectomy also tends to affect the quality of the sperm.

Potential Reverse Vasectomy Risks and Complications

Every surgery, no matter how minor, has its own potential for risks and complications, and a reverse vasectomy is no exception. However, because most reverse vasectomies are carried out by highly-trained professionals, the chance of experiencing a medical complication is very low, especially when the procedure is performed using the most modern microsurgery techniques. Even still, it is important to be aware of any potential for risk prior to having your reverse vasectomy performed.

Common Reverse Vasectomy Risks

Allergic reaction to local anesthetic used may result in hives or itching skin. Post-operative bleeding can collect in the scrotal area, causing the penis and/or scrotum to appear swollen and bruised. This is normal; however, because the skin of the scrotum is thin, the bruising will look much worse than it really is. After the reverse vasectomy, it is possible for one to feel uncomfortable body aches and minor pains. This is a normal reaction to recovering from the surgery and from the anesthesia used. If you were prescribed narcotics to help manage the pain after surgery, you may experience constipation. If blood collects under the skin during the vasectomy reversal surgery, there is a risk of an infection developing. However, this is rare and can be treated by antibiotics very easily. Nausea may be experienced after surgery due to the anesthesia wearing off. If testicular pain is still evident more than three months after the reverse vasectomy procedure, your doctor should be contacted. This type of discomfort is generally rare. Hematoma, or severe pooling of the blood under the skin, can occur if you do not follow your doctor’s recommendations about avoiding physical exertion for a set period of time. Approximately 10 percent of men who have a reverse vasectomy experience a decline in their sperm count. This can be due to a number of factors, including scar tissue formation or a disruption in the blood supply to the area. Anti-sperm antibodies can develop in some cases. When this occurs, the body creates these proteins that interfere with sperm, thus limiting the chances of pregnancy from occurring. In extremely rare cases, damage to the blood supply to the testicles during surgery can cause testicular atrophy. Some men experience sexual difficulties after their reverse vasectomy procedure. This is usually not caused by the surgery, but more so due to the emotional stress of a couple trying to get pregnant. Counseling can often help one deal with this type of issue. Learn More:

Drs. Marks and Burrows of our International Center for Vasectomy Reversal perform their vasectomy reversal procedures in a dedicated state-of-the-art operating suite. It stands fully equipped and ready with all the necessary microsurgical equipment and supplies for the maximum safety and comfort of their patients.

At ICVR, the vasectomy reversal procedure is normally performed under “conscious sedation.” Small amounts of intravenous sedatives and relaxing medications are administered throughout the reversal to keep you happy, relaxed and comfortable. With conscious sedation, you save the expense of a much deeper general anesthesia and avoid the post-procedure nausea and other risks inherent in using general anesthesia.

Throughout the surgery as well as after the reversal we monitor heart rate, blood pressure, breathing, oxygen level and degree of sedation to ensure your safety. Drs. Marks and Burrows’ focus is to do whatever needs to be done with the least disturbance to the surrounding tissues, preserving adjacent nerves and blood vessels so as to minimize any unnecessary swelling and maximize a healthy recovery.

During the vasectomy reversal procedure, the scarred ends of the vas deferens are microsurgically removed and the fluid from the testicular side of the vas is analyzed. We look at the color, the consistency, the volume of the fluid, presence or absence of sperm and whether the sperm are normal, intact and moving. After healthy fluid is found, the ends of the vas deferens are reconnected. This process is followed on both sides, therefore it is actually two surgical procedures.

Drs. Marks and Burrows achieve the highest surgical success rates for their patients using the formal multi-layer technique using 10-0 or 11-0 microsutures, even though this technique is more challenging and time consuming. Sometimes, when the scarring is too severe, it is necessary to reconnect the vas at the epididymis. There is no way to predict before surgery when this procedure will be required. Therefore, it is absolutely essential that you choose a surgeon that is as experienced performing this procedure as a normal vas-to-vas connection.

Drs. Marks and Burrows only perform microsurgical vasectomy reversals, using a new top-of-the-line Leica/Wild high-power surgical microscope with Swiss optics. This provides the best visualization possible, improving the accuracy and precision of each suture placed considerably. They also have the entire surgery viewable on a close-circuit monitor, which allows them to record and photograph the surgery. All patients receive intraoperative photographs when they are discharged, as well as photographs of the vas deferens fluid.

The best predictor of a successful vasectomy reversal procedure is the microsurgical skill and expertise of the surgeon. The level of skill required can only be achieved and maintained when the surgeon is performing vasectomy reversals at least 3-4 times a week over a period of years.

The Post Surgery Care Instructions After A Vasectomy Reversal Procedure

Like all surgical procedures, there is set format for after surgery care even when you get a vasectomy reversal done. Even though both a vasectomy and its reversal are not particularly complicated procedures, it is essential to take good care of yourself to ensure that there are no complications in the recovery phase. The surgeon who conducts the procedure will generally give you all the instructions that you need to take care of your self after the procedure. Needless to say, it is imperative to follow these instructions diligently once you are discharged and allowed to go back home.

As a matter of fact, because you will be slightly groggy after the procedure if general anesthesia is used, you may want to consider talking to your doctor about the post surgery care instructions a few days in advance; this way you will have enough time to go over them with your physician and ensure that you have everything ready before the surgery is conducted. You will also have the time to make any special arrangements that you may need to take care of before you have the surgery so that you can just relax and rest after the vasectomy reversal procedure.

The general after care instructions will include the following:

You will be asked to stay in bed for a few days after the procedure, depending on your condition, you don
