A vasectomy is a surgical procedure that offers a permanent solution to birth control. It works by removing all or part of the vas deferens, the tubes that deliver sperm into a man’ s ejaculation, thus making the man infertile. In the U.S. alone, over 500,000 men opt to have a vasectomy each year. Of these men, it’ s estimated that five percent, for whatever reason, want the procedure reversed. For them, the best option is microsurgical vasectomy reversal.

Tubal Reversal or IVF

Many women have had a tubal ligation and then seriously consider becoming pregnant again, Many will say in vitro fertilization (or IVF) is the best or only option.
For most women, however, tubal reversal surgery is actually the better option. Once their tubes are repaired, there is the chance that they could become pregnant naturally each and every month.
With IVF, they have to be injected with medication and have a minor surgical procedure performed each time they attempt to get pregnant. Based on current national statistics, the pregnancy rate for IVF is approximately 27% and costs between $8,000 to $20,000 for each treatment cycle.
At Center, the cost for the surgery is $5900 and pregnancy rates are approximately 75%! In almost all cases, tubal reversal is the most successful and cost-effective alternative for pregnancy in women who have been previously sterilized and now desire to have another baby.
You can read more on getting a tubal reversal or IVF on the website at http://www.tubal-reversal.net/tubal-reversal-vs-ivf.htm. Read the rest of this entry »

Kacy I think it depend on who did your TL. My report said he took 1 cm from each side yet I ended up with 2.5 and 5. I think my Dr. folded my tube in half and cut it. I was expecting much longer tubes than I got. Also it depends on which type of TL you had. I had ligation resection. Your’s sound good though, so I wouldn’t worry at all. I was just glad I had something to work with,

Kacy-

Kacy, unfortunately, I’ve heard way too often that the reports were erroneous when it comes to figuring your lengths. Don’t worry though… there are plenty of short-tubers that get those
BFP’s and I see less of them with blocked tubes, so I guess it’s a mixed blessing. If you are worried, you can chose to have the LAP done to see what Dr. Berger can do before TR. To be honest, it really depends on WHAT kind of TL you had that mostly determines your tube lengths.

Kacy, I didn’t have pathology reports for my TL, but my tubes were coagulated in three places on each tube. Dr.Berger did LAP and was able to continue with reversal . My tube lenghts are L 3.5 & R 5.5 . It’s been 5 months since surgery.

Hi, I just had my TR done today. This is my first time posting to any of the boards. I was told that my TL’s are 6 and 7 centimeters. My age is still a factor, but I’m praying for God to give us a baby. I believe it’s a miracle that TR’s are available to women today.

Early Pregnancy Symptoms Following Tubal Reversal

Jeannine asks on the Tubal Reversal Message Board for input from other message board members about early pregnancy symptoms with untied tubes. She posts, “Okay, I know you can find out what early pregnancy symptoms are on the web. However, I was wondering if some of the women on the board would share their early pregnancy symptoms and when did they start to experience them (how many DPO).” Pregnancy signs and symptoms differ among women and pregnancies. The most common early pregnancy sign is delayed menstruation. Some women experience pregnancy signs even before their period is delayed. For others, signs or symptoms will not develop over a few weeks or may not even be present at all. Understanding pregnancy signs and symptoms is important for women who have had their tubes untied. Dr. Berger recommends monitoring early pregnancy with quantitative serum HCG assays and scheduling an when the HCG level reaches 1500. Dr. Berger and his staff at Center want to be kept informed of all results. Center is the only facility that exclusively performs tubal reversal surgery, and it has set a new standard for patient care by following up with patients and providing accurate, up-to-date pregnancy statistics.
