The Weekly Pregnancy Report for Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center is published on the Tubal Reversal Message Board. During the week of April 19 – April 25, 2008, 20 new pregnancies were reported by Dr. Berger’s patients after their tubal reversal procedures. The women’s ages ranged from 33 to 40, and the fallopian tube lengths after their tubes were untied ranged from 3.0 cm to 7.5 cm. The tubal ligation methods among these women included Hulka clips, Falope rings, bipolar coagulation, and ligation/resection. At present, more than 1000 babies have been born following tubal ligation reversal by Dr. Berger.

Carol, a member of the Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center Message Board members, asks other ladies to share their age and FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) levels because she would like to discuss trying to conceive after age 35 and the importance of FSH when trying to achieve pregnancy. An FSH serum assay on cycle day 3 can determine if a woman has a good number of healthy eggs left in her ovaries. An elevated FSH level indicates a reduction in the quantity of eggs. A normal or low FSH level shows that there is a good reservoir of eggs for future ovulations. Carol had tubal reversal surgery with Dr. Berger in April 2008 and is optimistic that she will be able to conceive a pregnancy since her FSH was low (less than 2) and her tube lengths after surgery were 6.5 cm and 7. 0cm.

An FSH serum assay on cycle day 3 can determine if a woman has a good number of healthy eggs left in her ovaries. An elevated FSH level indicates a reduction in the quantity of eggs. A normal or low FSH level shows that there is a good reservoir of eggs for future ovulations. The average fallopian tube is 10cm – 11cm in length prior to the sterilization procedure. Typically, around 0.5cm to 3cm is removed during a tubal ligation. Depending on the amount of tube removed, the tubes may be 4cm – 8cm in length after Dr. Berger performs the tubal reversal procedure. Based on the extensive follow-p study conducted by Dr. Berger at Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center, two out of three women with the ligation and resection procedure (tubal ligation) will become pregnant after reversal surgery with Dr. Berger. With more than 30 years of experience performing tubal reversal surgery, Dr. Berger is able to repair the tubes in 98% of cases and has had patients report pregnancies with tubes as short as 1.5cm.
