Today many women are opting to not have children and undergo various procedures to prevent them from conceiving.  One particular procedure is known as Essure.  It induces a natural barrier to be created in the fallopian tubes in order to prevent you from becoming pregnant.

There are several reasons why many women today are choosing to have this Essure device inserted to prevent a pregnancy.  Below we take a look at a few of these.

1.  You do not need to have a general anesthesia for this procedure to be carried out as no incisions are required.  This means that in many cases the actual procedure can be completed in the comfort of your own doctor’s office.

2.  Because you do not need that general anesthesia before the procedure, recovering from it occurs more quickly.  Most women find they are able to return to doing their normal activities on a daily basis the day after the procedure has been done.

3.  Unlike rings, patches, birth control pills and some kinds of IUD’s with the Essure device there are no hormones that can affect adversely the woman’s menstrual cycle.  In a lot of cases women who have undergone the procedure find that their menstrual cycle remains the same as before its insertion.

However, there can be assorted problems with the insertion of the Essure device.  One out of every seven fittings fails requiring a second trip to your doctor’s office to have the insertion done again, hopefully correct this time.  Some devices do not stay in the fallopian tubes.  These end up requiring surgery to find and remove including any organs or other tissue that have become involved with the filaments within the spring-like devices that cause scarring to happen.

But the biggest problem in a manner of speaking can be that women have begun to regret their decisions to use Essure as a form of birth control.  Though meant to be permanent birth control, you might decide for whatever reason you now want another child.  To do this you have the choice of either undergoing expensive IVF treatment or to undergo an Essure sterilization reversal procedure which removes the device.

Although a more serious surgery than most tubal ligation reversals, the Essure sterilization reversal surgery can be done for less than the price of one average IVF cycle.  Of course, you have a limited number of doctors who have done this sterilization reversal so you need to choose the leading surgeon who has done this.

To remove the device and the tubal blockage created by it, the surgeon employed will be required to carry out a procedure called tubouterine implantation.  The surgeon needs to cut out part of the fallopian tubes in order to remove the obstruction caused by the device.  This is the only way to remove it.  In doing this removal, he will end up taking a part of the uterine wall where the “tail” of the device sticks out.  

Next, the surgeon will be required to make a new incision into the uterus so that the parts of the fallopian tubes that remain after cutting out the Essure and the tubal blockage can then be implanted into the uterine cavity.  You really do want an experienced tubal surgeon to do this as the more of the fallopian tubes left after removal, the better your chances of getting pregnant again.
