Do You Feel That Vasectomy Reversal Will Improve Your Testosterone Levels?

There are several misconceptions about vasectomy reversal; one of the most common fallacies that people harbor is about an increase in the level of testosterone after the procedure. Several men actually choose the procedure in the hopes that it may help to augment the level of testosterone; unfortunately, the fact is that there is no clinical documented evidence that proves such an effect. Regardless of how many sites you can find online that make statements to that effect; the reality is that there is no clinical evidence that stands in favor of this hypothesis. However; some light may be shed on a possible connection between a vasectomy reversal procedure and the level of testosterone; but there are no conclusions that favor the argument at this point in time.

So a simple one word answer to the question, does vasectomy reversal increase the level of testosterone in the male body is NO. But the surgery can yield other results such as:

The procedure allows men who have been through a vasectomy to become fertile again. Statistically; the procedure has a success rate of 65% to 75%; that is almost 75% of the men who g for vasectomy reversal achieve fatherhood in future.

The second effect of the procedure is a reduction in the pain in 70% to 80% of the people who suffer from photosensitive vaporization of the prostate and experience pain due to back pressure.

Then there are also indirect ways in which a vasectomy reversal may help in certain situations; for instance:

In several instances a vasectomy reversal is specifically conducted if a patient is suffering from PVP; however opting for the surgery not only alleviates the pain but also this in turn also leads to an improvement in the mental health of the person suffering from the disorder. Indirectly; this may have a positive effect on the health the levels of the patient. Pain and chronic illnesses are known to cause depression and there are also other health related ramifications such as a decrease in the level of testosterone. The procedure can help to raise the levels of testosterone and promote a feeling of well being

Some can accept sterility but not all of us have the mental strength to accept the reality that we may never be able to father a child. This can also lead to depression in such a scenario restoring fertility can change the mental condition and the physical well being of a person. Since in several cases the surgery helps to elevate the level of testosterone in the body; it helps in the improvement of physical condition. So if you fit in either one of these categories, you should seriously consider vasectomy reversal and as an indirect effect the level of testosterone may be augmented as a result of the surgery.

It is imperative to ensure that you choose the surgeon and the clinic in which you intend to get the procedure done after due consideration. The skill of the doctor and the support staff; the rate of success in other patients who have had the procedure done in the clinic will impact your chances of success as well. There are also other aspects which will have a bearing on the outcome of the surgery such as drinking, smoking; health condition and the duration between vasectomy and reversal procedures. Vasectomy reversal is an outpatient procedure that takes less than two hours. You will have the choice to have the procedure conducted under the influence of epidural or general an aesthesia.

There will be tenderness in and around the scortum for a week after the procedure and you will be asked to not indulge in sexual activities for four weeks after the procedure. Through the recovery period, you will have to see the surgeon at least once to ensure that you are healing properly. The doctor may even ask you to get certain tests done including a semen analysis so that the success of the procedure can be determined.

Vasectomy Reversal: Tim had a vasectomy many years ago performed by Dr. Friedman at MetroWest Urology. When he and Hope got married and decided on having a child they contacted Dr. Friedman to inquire about the success rate for reversing Tim’s original vasectomy. Dr. Friedman discussed the vasectomy reversal procedure with Hope and Tim and they felt Tim was the proper candidate for such a procedure (vasectomy reversal). With the expertise of Dr. Friedman in vasectomy reversals they now have a beautiful young daughter, Daisy. Hope and Tim discuss their history, in this two minute video clip, and also praise Dr. Friedman and his staff as the most professional team to perform a reversal vasectomy. Daisy makes a guest appearance to the delight of her parents as they discuss the procedure.

Animal and human data indicate that vasectomy does not increase atherosclerosis and that increases in circulating immune complexes after vasectomy are transient. Furthermore, the weight of the evidence regarding prostate and testicular cancer suggests that men with vasectomy are not at increased risk of these cancers.

Post-Vasectomy Pain Syndrome

Post-Vasectomy Pain Syndrome (PVPS), genital pain of varying intensity that may last for a lifetime, is estimated to appear in between 5% and 33% of vasectomized men, depending on the severity of pain that qualifies for the particular study In one study, vasectomy reversal was found to be 69% effective for reducing the symptoms of chronic post-vasectomy pain. Treatment options for 31% of patients whose pain did not respond to vasectomy reversal were limited. The study was very small, only evaluating 13 patients, and it was performed only once, making it difficult to draw solid conclusions. In severe cases orchiectomy has been resorted to.

Possible Vasectomy-Dementia Link

Researchers reported in February 2007 that a survey of a small number of men with a rare form of dementia found that more than twice as many as would be expected had undergone vasectomies. The study has not yet been verified by other researchers, and the authors say larger studies are needed to better understand the issue.

Hmmm. Is it possible that the girls who were found to have unhealthy food-related behaviors 5 years later were already insecure about their bodies at the time that magazine reading was counted, making them more likely to be interested in reading diet-related things and fluffy, superficial, image-based magazines in the first place? I’m not suggesting that pop culture and media have no influence on adolescent behavior, but am curious to find out if the study really supports the conclusions we’re reading in the news outlets, such as the NYTimes piece linked below.

More on this later, after I get a chance to read the entire study.
