The Weekly Pregnancy Report for Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center is published on the Tubal Reversal Message Board. The women’s ages ranged from 33 to 40, and the fallopian tube lengths after their tubes were untied ranged from 3.0 cm to 7.5 cm. The tubal ligation methods among these women included Hulka clips, Falope rings, bipolar coagulation, and ligation/resection. At present, more than 1000 babies have been born following tubal ligation reversal by Dr. Berger.
Informed consent means a person has access to and understands all relevant information about a medical or surgical treatment necessary to make an informed decision about it. With regard to tubal reversal surgery, informed consent means that a woman understands how the surgery is performed, the alternative treatment of in vitro fertilization, and the potential benefits, risks, and likelihood of success from these treatments.
Jeannine asks on the Tubal Reversal Message Board for input from other message board members about early pregnancy symptoms with untied tubes. She posts, “Okay, I know you can find out what early pregnancy symptoms are on the web. However, I was wondering if some of the women on the board would share their early pregnancy symptoms and when did they start to experience them (how many DPO).” Pregnancy signs and symptoms differ among women and pregnancies. The most common early pregnancy sign is delayed menstruation. Some women experience pregnancy signs even before their period is delayed. For others, signs or symptoms will not develop over a few weeks or may not even be present at all. Understanding pregnancy signs and symptoms is important for women who have had their tubes untied. Dr. Berger recommends monitoring early pregnancy with quantitative serum HCG assays and scheduling an ultrasound exam when the HCG level reaches 1500.
