Adiana Reversal Information and Success Story

Every year in the United States and across the world, thousands of women decide to undergo sterilization so that they do not get pregnant. This may be done for a variety of different reasons including lifestyle changes, financial circumstances and just being finished with having a family. Many women have opted over the years to have a procedure done called Adiana sterilization. Now, some of these same women are wondering whether or not it is possible to have an Adiana reversal. Thankfully, doctors in North Carolina have recently proven that it is certainly possible to have this procedure reversed successfully.

Doctors at the Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center recently completed a reversal on a patient who had the Adiana sterilization process done. The patient had undergone sterilization and later lost a child to accidental drowning. As she recovered from the terrible tragedy that happened to her family, she decided that she would like to have another child. While weighing her options for in vitro fertilization, she came across information that suggested that the Adiana procedure could possibly be reversed.

In February of 2009, this patient had a reversal procedure completed by the experts at the Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center. In August of 2010, the patient delivered a healthy baby girl weighing in at 8 pounds and 9 ounces. This was her second pregnancy after having the procedure reversed as the first one ended in a miscarriage. However, the successful pregnancy produced a very healthy baby girl.

The reversal procedure only took 70 minutes and was performed on an outpatient basis. The doctors performed what is called a bilateral tubotubal uterine implantation procedure. This involves bypassing the blocked a segment of each fallopian tube by removing the healthy tube attached to the uterus and reinserting it into the uterine cavity. Although the procedure is not commonly done in the United States, the team at The Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center were able to effectively handle the surgery and allow for this patient to go forward with a natural pregnancy. In the end, the outcome was very successful and mother and baby are very happy.

Remarks: I went to the ER on 10/27/08 b/c I was hurting in my left ovary about all day. They did blood work, u/s & said I was pregnant. The HCG levels were 121. The DR stated I was about 1-2 weeks preg. So I went on 10/29/08 & had another HCG done. The results were preg with a HCG of 32. My obgyn said it could be a miscarriage. Remarks: This is my 1st pregnancy after tubal reversal. On Sun 10/12 I took a home pregnancy test (positive) & on 10/14 I went to the hospital & got an official pregnancy test (positive). I started spotting the afternoon of Tue 10/14 On Thur 10/16 the spotting had not stopped so I phoned the hospital to see what I should do, they referred me immediately to the ER. At the ER I was given an ultrasound & they were unable to find a fetus. My blood was drawn for a quantitative level test of hcg and I was sent to xray for another ultrasound with a more powerful xray machine. The quantitative test showed my hcg level was over 22,000 (which (I was told) means if a baby was in the womb, they would definitely see it) & the xray showed an abnormality on my right side. Overnight at 2 am on Friday 10/17 I went into surgery to have the fetus removed laparascopically. The doctor reported to my husband and I that when they looked inside they saw I’d bled quite a bit, therefore the doctor made a large incision in my lower abdomen & made the decision to remove the right tube & the right ovary. The right tube was not open & that’s the tube the baby tried to flow through & apparently there was damage to my ovary as well. I return for a follow up appointment on Oct 31.

Again I have low progesterone. 1st # is 42 and progesterone at 5.7 I’m on progesterone gel as of today. I had my TR done in May 2004. I was scared out of my mind on what to expect when I got to Chapel Hill. Everyone there put my mind at ease and took care of us. The next morning I met with Dr. Berger before surgery and he was so kind and caring. Told me how the surgery would go and also told me there was NO guarantee that I would get pregnant. Well I am happy to report that I now have a 17 month old daughter. Thank you Dr. Berger and everyone at CHTRC for making our dreams come true! Dr. Berger and his entire staff provided me with truly the BEST surgical experience I have ever had. No one likes to have surgery…it can be scary. However, they put me at ease, were 110% professional and knowledgeable. I have to say that while I am pleased as punch that my surgery was so successful (I am currently 35 weeks pg) I would not have hesitated for a second to go back for a repeat with his office if it had been necessary. I actually kind of miss everyone there … it was THAT GOOD of an experience. We flew from Texas to NC to use him as my surgeon and it was worth every second, and every penny! I loved Dr. Berger and his staff! Finally I had a Dr. that listened and really cared!!! Their follow ups and constant avail. to me is 24/7 even today four months after my surgrey.I only wish more Dr.’s and staff were like Dr. Berger and his staff.

He is a very kind and understanding doctor. We traveled from NY to have him perform our surgery. His facility is kept very clean and the staff were all professional and eager to listen to our concerns. I wouldn’t hestitate to travel to NC to have him perform another TR.

After extensive research, I chose Dr. Berger to perform my Tubal Reversal. Dr. Berger and his staff were kind and genuine as well as skilled. I was made to feel at ease from the moment I set foot in his office. Dr. Berger took all the time necessary to talk with my husband and myself regarding the surgery, outcomes and possible risks. My surgery was at 7:30 a.m. and I was back and recovering, feeling well, by 10:30 a.m. My recovery time was minimal and his staff continued to check on me even after arriving at home. Dr. Gary Berger developed the technique of outpatient tubal ligation reversal. During the past 29 years, he has introduced a variety of improved techniques that simplify the operation, minimize pain, and speed recovery from tubal reversal surgery.

Did my TR in 2/02. I have not conceived but the surgery did cure my Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome and give me my quality of life back. I have contacted Dr. Berger several times since the surgery and he and/or his nurse have returned my calls the same day and offered their expertise and advice. The whole TR experience from start to finish was VERY professional and caring and I don’t regret the surgery even though I haven’t conceived.

Dr. Berger did my tubal reversal surgery in 2001. We’ve had 3 babies since then and are currently pg with our 4th. He returned my calls at 3 am when I had concerns after surgery. I send everyone I know who wants this surgery done to him.
