Adiana Reversal & Tubal Surgery – Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center

Although the Adiana permanent birth control system was only approved by the FDA in July 2009, already some women are reconsidering their choice to use it.  What they are actually reconsidering is having their tubes blocked in any manner which is how pregnancy is prevented with tubal ligation.  This change of heart has led one woman to getting a reversal via tubal surgery.  It is the first Adiana reversal.

Increase in popularity of vasectomy according to latest US government stats

Posted by Mike Malone | Posted in Uncategorized | Posted on 08-07-2010-05-2008

No formal data collection system exists in the USA to collect and collate the number of sterilizations performed annually. The current oft-quoted figure of 500,000 vasectomies performed per year is not an accurate count – it’s an extrapolation of various smaller studies and surveys. However, most people accept that it’s likely to be accurate. It equates to approximately 11% of the population relying on vasectomy as their primary method of birth control.

This new study was undertaken by the Department of health & Human Services. The data was collected in 2002, and the
paper was published on November 18, 2005. Basically, it’s in the form of a telephone questionnaire, and there were a total of 174,026 men and women to men and women in all US states and participating in the study.

Men and women answered differently. Both men and women reported Tubal Ligation equally, men had higher percentages for vasectomy and condom use, and women had higher percentage for the pill, and lower percentage for vasectomy and condom use. The statistics below are a combination of the percentages for man and women by state.

Vasectomy was most used in Washington (25.9%), and least used in the US Virgin Islands (3.7%). Overall, the results for primary method of birth control were:-
Pill 28.3%
Tubal ligation 22.9%
Condom 17.3%
Vasectomy 16.1%

In light of these figures, the 500,000 / 11% figures are likely to be under-estimates.
I have summarised the stats here.

I think it depend on who did your TL. My report said he took 1 cm from each side yet I ended up with 2.5 and 5. I think my Dr. folded my tube in half and cut it. I was expecting much longer tubes than I got. Also it depends on which type of TL you had. I had ligation resection. Your’s sound good though, so I wouldn’t worry at all. I was just glad I had something to work with,

, unfortunately, I’ve heard way too often that the reports were erroneous when it comes to figuring your lengths. Don’t worry though… there are plenty of short-tubers that get those
BFP’s and I see less of them with blocked tubes, so I guess it’s a mixed blessing. If you are worried, you can chose to have the LAP done to see what Dr. Berger can do before TR. To be honest, it really depends on WHAT kind of TL you had that mostly determines your tube lengths.

, I didn’t have pathology reports for my TL, but my tubes were coagulated in three places on each tube. Dr.Berger did LAP and was able to continue with reversal . My tube lenghts are L 3.5 & R 5.5 . It’s been 5 months since surgery.

Hi ,
Dr. Berger and the tubal reversal nurses will be glad to go ahead and review your OP note even if you have not scheduled. This will help bring you peace of mind. #1 there is NO Charge for this. Fax it to 919-967-8637 and make sure that you have an e-mail address or telephone number and they will give you results within 24 hours.
Think positive. [Big Grin]

Hi, I just had my TR done today. This is my first time posting to any of the boards. I was told that my TL’s are 6 and 7 centimeters. My age is still a factor, but I’m praying for God to give us a baby. I believe it’s a miracle that TR’s are available to women today.

Wonderful Surgery Experience

Dear Dr. Berger & Staff,

Just wanted to take this opportunity while sending back my feedback sheet to thank you all so much for making our surgery experience so wonderful. I must say that when we first found the clinic the day before my surgery for my consult, we were surprised by the small of the building. My husband & I expected a big sprawling clinic/hospital looking place. But once we entered into the reception area we were at ease. The receptionist was very kind & took a picture of us together so Dr. Berger would be able to “put a face with the name”. I thought that was great, that he thought enough of his patients to do that. We sat in the looking at & reading all the pictures of new babies & hundreds of thank you’s & blessings.
