If you are not pregnant within 6-12 months following your tubal reversal surgery, Dr. Berger will recommend an HSG (hysterosalpingogram) to test for assessing tubal patency.

Well I called my ob office today, and I am having my HSG thursday instead of next week, cause she will be out of town. My question is I have to work that day, is this painful? Do you think I will be able to work? I don’t even know how this test is done and I am very nervous. Thank you all for your help,
Jeannie

Jeannie, I think it’s different for everyone.. as for me, I had lots of pain. I’ve read that if your tubes are open it doesn’t bother as much but I had lots of pain…
I’ll be praying for open and healthy tubes for ya.. good luck

Dear jeannie…all women are different and I have read many posts of women who had a lot of pain …. I had my hsg on May 10 and I did not have any pain during and after. A little discomfort when the doc had to push a little extra fluid in to push through my left tube, but that was tolerable. I took 2 ibuprofen 1 hour before my test. The test is done by the doc inserting a “balloon” type of object in order to push some dye into your uterus. He puts the balloon in by using the same tool that they use for papsmeres…nothing really. He then injects the dye into your uterous…slowly…and watches to see if it spills out through your tubes into your ovaries. Praying for you that it will comfortable for you and you can go right to work!! Hope this helps

Hi Jeannie,
I’m glad some of the ladies on the board have helped answer your questions about an HSG . I hope it goes well and please send the films and report from the HSG to Dr. Berger so that he can review the findings.

Jeannie, I had an HSG in Feb. and although it wasn’t as painful for me as others, I still did not feel like doing alot afterwards. It was like a bad AF cramping few days. Depending on how well your threshold on pain is would probably dictate if you were able to go back to work. Also depending on WHAT you do at your work.
I spotted a teeny bit on a pad and that was it. I took ibuprofen before the HSG and the dye went through both my tubes.
Definitely take a little post it with Dr B’s address with you to give to the hospital so they can send a copy of the results and X-rays to him, JUST in case they have an issue. Dr B knows where your tubes were reconnected at and can compare them to the X-ray they do of the dye test to see, that if there is a blockage, if it’s at the same site as where he reconnected it or in another spot and then it could be inconclusive and where everyone thinks your tube might be blocked, when actually it could still be open and just have debris in another area.
Did that make sense? Sorry if it didn’t and hope you have wide open tubes. Good luck

Thank you all. I am so nervous about tomorrow. I hope they are open. I will be just devastated if not.

Jeannie,
I took 2 Advil prior to my HSG. It did hurt during the procedure while they forced the dye in. Not unbearable. I was fine afterwards and went to the mall near the radiology center.
Good Luck!

Jeannie,
I had mine done 6/13 took 2 tylenol 2hrs before no pain they actually did the procedure radiologist saw pic. and they had to insert tube again because he thought there wasn’t enough so and sure enough second time around there was a spill on both sides. First time Dr. didn’t push enough dye she added more dye while the radiologist was there taking pics. so ask if the radiologist can be there so that he/she can read the results while you and your doc are still there. I did go back to work had little cramps and little pain also bloated.
